Philosophy
The main focus of the Faculty of Foreign Studies is on international
human resource development. We have two key concepts to overcome the recent
globalization trend: practical language skills and the positive style of
communication. Our goal is to produce capable businesspersons with strong
language skills.
More than a billion people speak either English or Chinese today.
Strong skills of English and Chinese will help students prepare for prospective
changes and design effective career goals. Our two English courses and
one Chinese course focus on effective and practical communication skills
in these languages.
Globalization is also opening a new phase for Japanese service industries.
As more foreign nationals flow into Japan, the ability to explain about
Japanese culture is gaining more importance. We should achieve better international
relations through an active and open style of communication. Our courses
of Teaching of Japanese, Media Studies, and Tourism emphasize the aspect
of such communication style, as well as deepening the knowledge on Japanese
culture itself.
Thus, our program, through various approaches, aims at keeping up
with the global trend and encouraging common understanding with people
from different countries. |

Students of the Department of English Language master English communication
skills either in teaching or in business. Students in the Department of
East-Asian Languages choose either mastering Chinese communication skills,
or skills of teaching Japanese to non-native speakers. In the Department
of Applied Communications, students of Media Studies aim at careers in
media industries--such as TV, the Internet, journalism and publishing.
Finally, Tourism students have opportunities to experience jobs in tourism
through internship and work closely with tourism industry in the future.
The unique aspect of the Faculty of Foreign Studies is that all
the students are required to take both English and Chinese courses. No
matter what department they choose, the students must acquire the basic
knowledge of these two languages. The reason is that we believe the importance
of English and Chinese as the two most spoken international languages.
We also believe that Japan's geographical position demands more Japanese
who have basic knowledge of these two languages. |
