総合政策学部フィールド教授が聖徳学園ベトナム研修で高校生を指導

Kyorin University – Shotoku Gakuen
University – High School Co-operation
Malcolm H. Field
Throughout the 2014 academic calendar, Kyorin University and Shotoku Gakuen have been cooperating on a regular basis. Students at Shotoku High school made a club under the leadership of a teacher and the school counsellor. The Vice President, Paul Snowden, and/or I would visit the school and work with the students.

As part of that cooperation, I joined the Shotoku High School students’ Viet Nam educational tour program in December 2014, using my own university research funds. I accompanied the students’ visits to the JICA offices in Hanoi, where we had a meeting discussing JICA’s projects in Viet Nam, and to a countryside “cultural village”, where the students were able to enjoy traditional singing and costumes of people from the north of Viet Nam, get their hands “dirty” by picking corn and other vegetables grown in garden plots, and enjoy a plentiful feast of local foods.

I found the Shotoku High School students to be enthusiastic, adventurous, and willing to listen to and engage with the new ideas and environment. I found their attitudes refreshing. I believe it was a valuable experience for the students and I would encourage more hands-on study tours to Viet Nam and other Southeast Asian and African countries.
