In 2023, the Department of Stroke Medicine welcomed Mr. Jacob Gordon, then a first-year medical student at Stony Brook University, SUNY, for a one-month exchange program. Despite language barriers and clinical restrictions, we designed a training plan focusing on diagnostic imaging—particularly the interpretation of early ischemic changes on head CT.
Through structured learning and hands-on practice with faculty guidance, Mr. Gordon quickly developed practical skills. This experience enabled him to present his work at the Asia Pacific Stroke Conference 2025 in Kobe, showcasing how short-term programs at our university can provide meaningful training even across language barriers.
Our programs aim to give international students opportunities to engage in advanced medical education, research, and clinical training. We are proud that Mr. Gordon’s experience here supported his path toward becoming a neurologist specializing in stroke care.
