Whether people in the affected area would see the humor in this or consider it inappropriate and offensive is unclear, but such slips of the tongue, more often than not, make people laugh. However, this laughter is not the contemptuous kind, mocking the speaker. As a spark of fire makes common objects look suddenly different and unfamiliar in its light, one lapse of speech can create momentary confusion and cause us to laugh at this unexpected distortion of the world around us.
