Junten High School Global Week
Session by Malcolm H. Field for Kyorin University

Kyorin University was pleased to be part of Junten High School’s Global Week 2016. Many faculty and staff from universities and organisations in Japan attended Junten’s Global Week. Numerous personnel from institutions abroad, from the University of British Colombia to Hong Kong Polytechic, also participated in the event. Professor Malcolm Field, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Social Sciences, represented Kyorin University and led a seminar titled “What do we mean, global?”.

The main message, reinforced through many visuals and cognitive tasks, was to develop a global citizen we need to start by changing the way we think. Although learning a second (or third) language, going abroad, or attending university are all useful skills, proficiencies and/or experiences, unless we start with the way we think, we may only be replicating what already exists. About sixteen enthusiastic Junten High School students, as well as seven dynamic teachers and/or staff from Junten, and two Kyorin University students attended Professor Field’s seminar.
