「英語発音ワークショップ」をグローバルAPセミナーの一環として都立武蔵村山高校で実施

It was my pleasure to attend the ‘Experience University Workshop’ at Musashi Murayama High School on Wednesday, October 4th. The topic of the workshop was pronunciation. The students were introduced to minimal pairs of L/R, V/B and S/TH.

The workshop started with advice given about each sound and the position of teeth, tongue and lips, and how the different location gives different sounds, to have this correctly demonstrated really helps students start to pronounce better. For each minimal pair, a pronunciation pyramid task was used and then further practice with students changing partners and doing the task many times.

It was important for the students to distinguish between both sounds （e.g. light & right） by not only listening, but by watching their partner’s mouths.

Pronunciation lessons are always fun and interesting for students as it can be taught whatever the level,

students can come away from the lesson confident in sounding more native like. The workshop was rounded off with a ‘tongue twister’ activity, for example, How can a clam cram in a clean cream can?
