Kanagawa Sohgoh Koko

Kanagawa Sohgoh High School held its annual “World Cafe” on Sunday, 8 December; Kyorin University was represented by P. Snowden of the International Exchange. A total of 155 students, accompanied by one or two teachers from each school, attended from 17 schools around Kanagawa Prefecture, including the high school that serves the American base in Zama. The event was planned and organized by Kanagawa Sohgoh students, who had chosen “the 21st Century” as their grand title. After some opening activities and a 30-minute lecture by Snowden, the main programme covered three hours of discussion sessions by the students in groups of four around a small table. Their task was to discuss four topics for half an hour each: Technology, Role of People, International Situation, and Cultural Diversity and Inheritance. For each topic, students changed tables, so that they could meet and communicate with as many others as possible. During these discussions, Snowden and other teachers observed what was happening, and as part of the closing activities Snowden gave another lecture on his feedback. It was a very lively day, for which the organizers deserved the gratitude that the visitors from other schools clearly expressed.
